This was a contest organised by my former design school in collaboration with UN Today magazine in Geneva. The UN Today drafting committee provided the articles and selected one illustration/article to be published in their online and printed magazine. This happened three month in a row between October and December 2021.
brief: You have one week to illustrate a given article. The size of the illustration has to be 160x90mm.
challenge: Designing for a renown international organisation's magazine, meaning the illustration will have to fit the magazine's publishing line, reflect their values and be appropriate for a wide variety of cultures.
approach: The first article, written by Bruno Donat, is about the importance of speaking in favor of racial equity. For this article, I decided to create a typographical illustration, as I didn't want the illustration to overpower the text.
outcome: The end result is a mouth that speaks for itself.
The UN Today team liked my work and chose my illustration to be published in the November 2021 magazine.
“Make racism wrong!”
approach: The second article, is an interview of Romain Vetter about the reopening of the Geneva-New York route after the pandemic, so I wanted to make this one fun and visually appealing.
outcome: The final illustration represents a plane from the swiss airlines, with two young adults enjoying the journey...sitting ON the plane.
The UN Today team chose this one as well and it was published in the December 2021 magazine.“Come fly with me.”
